ESAN UNITY: IF NOT NOW, WHEN? – Kingsley Ohens
Opoji 6th June 2021
It is no longer news that Esan land is blessed with great sons and daughters. These sons and daughters are found in every nook and crannies of the world. They are also in every sector of the economy. They are not only found in every sector of the economy, they are mostly at the helm of affairs in these organizations. The land is so blessed with great men and women that they are often referred to as the Israelites of Nigeria. You can hardly name any area of human endeavor where an Esan man has not made appreciable progress.
Esan men and women are always leading in anywhere they finds themselves.
Research has shown that an average Esan is always in the top ten percent (10%) of any field of human endeavor. Esan people are bridge-builders in any moment of conflict and struggle. From the political to the economic angle, Esan people have been calling the shot.
The people are so wonderful that other tribes are envious of the Esan people.
Apart from the people, the land is also blessed with all kinds of natural resources. The land is fertile and thus very productive. We have good road network and avenue for wealth creation.
However, it may interest you to note that despite the abundant natural endowment of Esan people, the land is far from being fully developed. The people are so great but the land is far from being fully developed. The people are doing great but the land is yet to feel the full impact of their greatness. The level of development in Esan land is far from being commensurate with the greatness of her sons and daughters.
It is saddening to note that or see our sons and daughters of Esan Land in strategic socio-economic and political positions and some of our great leaders have refused to work together in unity to bring Esan land the needed development.
Esan people are great but their individual greatness cannot translate to the communal development of Esan land without proper synergy and communal relationship with one another. We need to harness our individual talents and resourcefulness for the corporate development of our land.
Unity is what is needed most in our quest for development in Esan land. Our greatest strength is in unity but our greatest danger is in discord. HENCE THE SLOGAN “AKUGBE, AHU”.
2024 is ahead of us, Esan most must unite to actualize that goal irrespective of political affiliations.
It is only Esan that will develop Esan for Esan, and now is the time. Let’s not make the mistake of the past, let’s not re-write the book of lamentation. Esan should be each other’s harvest; we should be each other’s business; we should be each other’s magnitude and bond.
Lastly, IT SHOULD BE ALL FOR ONE AND ONE FOR ALL, UNITED WE STAND AND DIVIDED WE FALL. If not now when? This is the time Esan need to speak in one voice and rally round behind a formidable candidate. It’s only through unity we can get the governorship come 2024.
Comrade Kingsley Ohens, the President of Esan Youths Organization, writes from Opoji, his home town.
