Edo 2024: When Opponent Becomes Enemy.
-Esan must not feature more than one aspirant.

By Prince Kelly Udebhulu.

A residual puzzle remains unresolved in Edo Central! At the moment, more than six ( 6 ) Esan personalities are ambitious to contest the Governorship election come 2024 and more will still join. But bearing in mind that in Nigeria, every political opponent is viewed as an enemy and every means are so explored and deployed to outwit the political enemy to achieve success in their immediate political pursuit and beyond!

The reason for the 'Do or Die' approach is obvious because in Nigeria, winning a governorship election is a means to owning the state, amassing wealth, appointing cronies to key positions and transforming oneself into a demi-god. Above all, remunerations of a sitting governor and in his retirement is enough to maim any opponent; seen or unforeseen.

So, for Edo Central to have more than six governorship aspirants in the forthcoming election in Edo state amounts to self-defeat, a self-made missile that boomerangs not only at its maker but also destroys the factory of production. It must be noted that no amount of good intention and suggestion from the opposition is welcomed because it is at best subversive.

Aren't we as a people quick to listen to the voices of our sworn enemies? We are not only quick at taking their counsel, but we are also comfortable with their divisive philosophy. Be warned! for, by this, they will hound you down. Such characteristics of a  political orientation have plagued the south of our nation and kept them in retrogression and self-denial. A word is enough for the wise and teachable!

Thankfully, there is a solution to this lingering problem! A lot may have happened: We may have been defeated but neither broken nor decimated in Edo Central. Therefore, we must begin to engage, align and reject the inimical inclinations of waiting for things to get out of control before intervention.

Let those with Governorship ambition at the earliest possible time converge and talk like brothers. Esan shouldn't feature many aspirants in the governorship elections come 2024.

Another solution is to begin to hold talks with the known aspirants to see politics as a game of 'give and take'. Our politicians must learn to see their opponents as co-competitors, not as enemies in the actualization of our collective dream.

They can do this by working together with their fellow opponents for the good of the Esan people. They need to realise also that if elected as Governor, he or she is to work for the development of Edo State and not in power, only to work for the advancement of a section of the state. It shall also be fulfilling for those in opposition to contribute towards the desired development in good faith by offering advice that fosters progress.

...to be continued.
