I quivered each time I see Esan people denouncing those that are trying to hold corrupt and self centered politicians accountable on their duties and obligations to the people.

Some of them even try to justify their betrayal of their own rights in defence of self centered legislators with Webster dictionary definition of legislature. Now listen people, text book definition of legislature is not the only role of the legislators. The cardinal reason constituents send their representatives to the Senate and Congress is to go fight on their behalf to attract federal projects and federal funding to their constituency. So, if you don't have federal roads, pipe borne water, electricity, hospitals or the infrastructures in your constituency are dilapidating due of lack of maintenance, you are perfectly in order to task your legislators to go make case on your behalf to the federal government. After all the federal government is executing such projects in other communities. Things are happening in other communities because their legislators and ministers are genuinely fighting for their people and getting things done on paper and on ground.
It's only in Esan they have paper and audio project. According to Baba TG my minister friend used 6 years to draw Benin - Auchi expressway on paper. On paper there is flyover in front of AAU campus gate. As if paper project minister is not enough, we have audio project senator and house of rep. Clifford Ordia and Hon Joe Edionwele supporters shared video and audio clips of them making a case for the construction of Emuhi road four years ago. They later came out and said the road has been captured in the budget for the following year. Three years down the road nothing has been heard about that project we were told was captured in the budget, meaning fund has been earmarked for it and nobody is asking questions.
What is really striking is that many of us asking question and demanding accountability from these legislators and ministers don't even live in these communities with horrific infrastructural decay. We live in the diaspora with all the comfort and convenience. Those living in the misery of infrastructural decay and suffering the hardship of bad representation from their legislators and ministers are the ones defending them.
I just want to appreciate those that really care enough to ask questions, and I want to also encourage you not to give up despite the denouement and repugnant comments from those you are fighting for. If not for anything do it for your conscience.
Whenever you want to give up on them like most in the diaspora that were once concerned, remember it's just human nature. Remember Jesus Christ was betrayed; remember the words of Mo Rachid Rida "To revolt on behalf of an ignorant people is like to set yourself on fire in order to light the way for a blind man" so it's not new.
Remember the words of Napoleon to Mohammed Karim: "I will concede that the sentence of capital punishment be executed not because you killed my solders, but for having fought on behalf of cowardly people"
So, it's not new. Its human nature. Ungrateful people and ungrateful societies ready to denounce those that care enough to stretch out their neck abound everywhere and across generations. Don't give up and don't give in. Let's keep talking till they get it right. - Brodricks Abumere
