:THE NEED FOR ESAN GOVERNOR IN 2024.
Held on 20th November, 2021. At Ukpaja Community town hall, Ubiaja. Edo State, Nigeria.
Mr. Chairman,
Father of the day,
Leaders of this great group,
Ladies and gentle men.
This is our third town hall meeting with the theme:THE NEED FOR ESAN GOVERNOR IN 2024.
Evil men will continue to rule, when good people back and do nothing.
The question a critical thinker will ask- why do Esan people need a governor?
A true Esan man or woman is that person who will tell you “yes” in the morning and have the same courage to say “no” in the evening, if there is need to say so.
This character is been demonstrated globally, no matter our geographical location and size, we will stand out anywhere in the world when we given the opportunity to serve.
There is something an Esan man person carries, which is not common amongst others. That thing is called Courage.
We need a governor in Edo state with genuine character and courage to bring great change to our people.
The late Chief Tony Enaholo, had the courage and will power to move for Nigeria’s independence which was no mean feat at the time.
The late Chief Tony Anenih gave relevance to the position of a BOT chairman in Nigeria politics and because of his sagacity, he was referred to as 'MR. FIX IT' he actually fix many things in political parties.
Now that we need an Esan governor. Every Esan sons and daughters MUST begin to build bridges to connect all the senatorial zones in the state.
This is the time we must begin to search for that Esan man or woman with the content to be a governor.
There is too much poverty in our land. In 2020, Kebbi state, made N8 billion naira from rice production, a thing that is possible in this state.
If you take a ride from the boundary town of Ondo state, when coming from Lagos, you will find yourself admiring the beauty of green vegetation on both side of the road.
From Ifon, Ondo State to Iruekpen in Esan land, the green vegetation follows you round as though nature is wrapping you in an embrace.
It goes on and on even as you take a ride from Oluku bypass to Okpilla or from Agenebode to Auchi, from Agbor to Ramat Park and Sapele to bypass in Benin City, what you see is Green vegetation, which is an unproductive wealth in this state.
I do not believe we are cursed, but what we lack is a person with the right mind set to bring transformation.
This l know an Esan man like any one here today can do, If given the opportunity.
Remember most of us would not have been where we are today, if not for the late Prof. Ambrose F. Alli, an Esan man, who in the early eighties provided free and compulsory education. He gave us a university, for which most of us are proud of today.
What about our brother, the late Admiral Augustus Aikhomu, It is on record today that he facilitated the establishment of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, which s known to be one of the best hospital in the country and one of the highest employer of in Esan land.
Chief Tom Ikhimi, within the shortest period of his stay as a minister, created a local government, because of time, he named it Igueben local governmental, Igueben. What a great feat?
It is not gain saying today, that one of the legacies of this present administration is the railway system and It is headed by an Esan man.
Esan people are known for establishing lasting legacies, So we must unit to make an Esan governor in 2024.
Unfortunately, the focus of politicians for seeking political office is the Federal allocation that comes monthly. Which are often misused and abused.
This has veiled their vision to see where our great wealth is hidden, but with an Esan man as a governor of Edo State,these negative tide will change, because he or she will make the difference.
Malaysia is a country of about 34 million people, with GDP of 334 billion USD; palm and rubber contribute 65% of this great wealth.
No matter our scientific advancement in the world, we need food to keep the body and soul going.
Food is the fuel of the body. At most, the method of processing is what may change.
The importance of food cannot be overemphasized and our soil is always ready for the production of food.
Promoting agriculture with hole and cutlasses in this state, will make us poorer, considering the rate of the population in our state.
It takes three months to plant and harvest rice and maize. Today a bag of rice is about N28,000:00 naira and one egg is N80:00; this indeed is a big business for the state to create employment, drive away hunger and insecurity from our state.
In answering the question posed by the topic of this town hall meeting, I posit that we do not need a governor, simply because Edo South had done sixteen years after the tenure of this present governor and Edo North had done eight years.
We need an Esan governor in 2024 because we honestly believe an Esan governor will bring great transformation to Edo state, by turning our green vegetation, we daily pass on our highways, into wealth to create employment and provide affordable food on our table.
So we must sit down to brainstorm as Esan people. We must put aside selfishness and greed. We must assemble intellectuals to give us a blueprint on how an Esan man can transform these great resources of this state to wealth.
Government must not only be seen hiring our youths as enforcers, pursuing the very poor in our state, who borrow from money lenders with high interest rate to sell crayfish and few consumables in our markets for tax, when government is not contributing anything to better their lots.
although no one is against the payment of tax, it will be good for government to be responsible to the people they lead. It is not enough to collect tax for the enrichment of some very few individuals in the society,but to see the people"s money work for them.
The dream of an Esan governor, should be to give a new face lift to leadership.
Esan people must design a road map to help alleviate the pains and sufferings of Edo people.
This is the only way one can justify the need for an Esan governor come in 2024.
l stand to support the call, the yearnings of our people for an Esan governor who has a clear vision and purpose of how to make Edo great.
Seeking elective position, must be based on issues not showmanship.
In conclusion:
It must not be business as usual. Some of us have seen pains and sufferings, we cannot join those whose only intention is to afflict more pains on the people. The time to say no to charlatans is now!
We must put aside selfishness, greed, party politics, taste for power and seek for a true Esan man that is ready and prepared to serve.
The person must be prepared to make Esan proud not waste our chance, if given.
It is my belief that we are created by God, given equal opportunities, how you use your own is what makes the difference.
