Eight (8) Esan West local government People's Democratic Party (PDP) ward chairmen on Sunday boycotted what they call third term agenda meeting held at the residence of a sitting House of Representatives Member, who has indicated interest to run in the forth coming 2023 general election in Nigeria.
The Ward Chairmen had gathered at the resident of one of their members in Ekpoma to express their disappointment at level of insincerity being expressed by the current Representative and the Senator who were the main beneficiaries of mutual agreement of *No Third Term in the District* which has held the district in unity and put the party on to victorious outings in previous elections.
While addressing pressmen in Ekpoma on Sunday, the chairmen said the party has been abandoned for over 7 years, adding that it is not now when elections are forthcoming that they want to start inviting them to illegal meetings.
The Chairmen also noted that the Senatorial leadership of the party had last week warned that no aspirant, whether serving senator, Representative, or House of Assembly Member of the party should call for any political meeting without the approval.
Recall that the executives of People's Democratic Party PDP, Edo Central Senatorial District Chapter, vehemently kicked against unapproved meetings at the Senatorial level.
In a press release on 7 February, 2022 signed by the State Vice Chairman / Senatorial Chairman, Arch. Bishop Anthony Okosun PhD, and Sir L.S. Ogedengbe Esq. the State Asst. Sec/ Senatorial Secretary, the party cautioned a serving member of Federal house of Representatives and others that they don't have the power to call for any of the party's senatorial meetings without the approval of the senatorial Chairman.
The statement recalled and frowned at a meeting which was held at the residence of a sitting National Assembly member, who is an aspirant, within the Senatorial District where "some LGA executives from Esan central and Igueben including other invited persons purported to have endorsed the political aspirations and desires of the current sitting Senator representing the Senatorial District and the current serving member of the House of Representatives from Ekpoma in whose house the aforesaid meeting was held to re-contest for their currently held positions at the National Assembly, despite the fact that they are both serving their second term in office."
The party further warned that it's "Senatorial Executive will not hesitate to deal heavily with any one that commits further infraction against the Constitution of the PDP."
Ward Chairmen present at the meeting includ: ward 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 9 respectively.
