" CHIEF IKIMI'S ACTION WAS AN ATTEMPTED COUP"... Bishop Okosun
The PDP Edo Central Senatorial Caucus Chairman, Bishop Anthony Okosun Phd, has described the aborted meeting of PDP leaders in the Senatorial District conveyed by Chief Tom Ikimi on Friday 8th April, 2022 as an attempted coup against the constituted leadership of the party in the zone. He stated that the PDP is guided by its constitution and the organs of the party are well spelt out at all levels.
Bishop Okosun who is the State Vice Chairman, Edo Central, said that it was an affront taken too far for Chief Tom Ikimi to summon a leadership meeting without recourse to the Senatorial Executive Committee. He said that the desperation being displayed by Chief Ikimi to force the leaders to endorse the third tenure bids of some NASS members in the Senatorial District is unfortunate. He recalled that in 2015, same Chief Tom Ikimi presided over the committee that aborted the third term bids of the previous NASS members in favour of the current ones.
While addressing a cross section of party leaders in his residence in Uromi on Friday on why he called off the meeting, he said ;" Chief Tom Ikimi has no constitutional right to have circulated the invitation without due consultation with the Senatorial Executive Committee. What he did was an attempted coup. I don't know why he is so desperate to foist the third tenure on the leaders through the back door.
It has been settled and agreed that in this Senatorial District, there is no third tenure for anyone. However, if anyone feels otherwise, he is free to go and test his popularity with the delegates in the primaries"
Bishop Anthony Okosun assured party members that his leadership will give a level playing field to all aspirants and also ensure that the primaries are free and fair. He called on all party faithful to unite together so that the PDP can maintain its dominance in the Senatorial District.
