EDO AGENDA: TIME TO PROJECT EDO CENTRAL FOR GOVERNORSHIP 2024!*

2024 is to foster Justice, Unity and Equality in Edo State
By Davidson Mhomhon

Since the restoration of democratic rule in Nigeria in 1999, the governorship seat in Edo State has alternated between Edo South and Edo North, with representatives from these districts taking turns as governor and deputy governor. The two districts have worked hard to ensure  that Edo Central has been overlooked in this rotational system. Yet the interest of justice, fairness, harmony, and inclusivity, we all know that it is time to consider a governor from Edo Central.

This article aims to explain why Edo Central should have its rightful place in the state's governance and highlight the abundant pool of talented individuals capable of leading the state.

Opportunity for Unity and Equality
In a homogeneous state like Edo, justice, unity and equal representation across all districts ought to be a forgone conclusion. By continually excluding Edo Central from producing a governor, there is an inherent sense of marginalization and a missed opportunity to promote unity and harmony among Edo people. It is only wise and to ensure equal representation, that Edo Central be given the chance to lead the state.

Edo Central's Talent Pool
It is a fallacy to assume that Edo Central lacks qualified or capable and financial endowed individuals for the high office of the governor. The district not only boasts a rich pool of talented and successful businessmen and women but is also teeming with competent, visionary, wealthy and experienced individuals who can effectively govern Edo State.

Edo Central is home to a diverse range of professionals, entrepreneurs, technocrats, and public servants who possess the requisite knowledge, skills, and integrity needed to excel as governor. These individuals have proven their mettle in various fields and have actively contributed to the social, economic, and political development of the state.

In the interest of meritocracy and fair representation, it is crucial to consider the immense human capital housed within Edo Central. By overlooking this district, we deny ourselves the opportunity to allow an exceptionally qualified individual to lead Edo State and contribute to its progress.

Brotherhood and Support
The relationships among the three major districts of Edo State - Edo South, Edo North, and Edo Central - are rooted in a longstanding brotherhood. All are descendants of the Edo nation. As brothers, it is our collective responsibility to support and uplift one another. By finding a suitable candidate from Edo Central and supporting their candidacy, we promote unity, understanding, and solidarity among all Edo citizens.

Choosing a governor from Edo Central serves as a unifying gesture, reinforcing our commitments to brotherhood, mutual respect, and equal representation. It allows us to acknowledge the contributions and aspirations of our fellow Edo Central brethren, fostering stronger bonds across the state.

It is high time we look beyond  primordial sentiment and truly embrace the principle of inclusivity, ensuring that every district within Edo State has an equal opportunity to contribute to its growth and development. By doing so, we can create an environment defined by unity, equality, and progress for all.
